Eyecare
How we’re leading the next generation of optoms
With the expansion of our brands and professional development across Australia and New Zealand it’s an exciting time to become part of the Luxottica Optometry Team. See how we’re actively supporting the development and professional growth of all Optometrists with the guarantee of clinical independence.
Luxottica’s Graduate Program
In 2009, we continued to celebrate the success of our Graduate Program with over 87 graduates joining our Optometry Team. Mentoring from our Regional Eyecare Managers and experienced Optometrists have ensured a smooth transition for all new Graduates.
As a new Grad you’ll have the opportunity to begin your Optometry career with some of the best equipment in the industry. Recent investments have included the GDX nerve head analyser and corneal topographers, Medmont and Zeiss perimeters, retinal cameras, paediatric vision training equipment and low vision trial cases.
Luxottica Optometry Council
Through the formalisation of our own Optometry Council we provide a forum for our Optometrists to discuss important clinical and professional issues. Focus groups create an environment where Optometrists can influence and help mould the future direction of Optometry within our business.
Rural, Regional and Remote Program
Ready to experience a different style of practice? Our Rural and Regional Programs provide Optometrists with the opportunity to travel across Australia and New Zealand and treat a diverse range of patients.
Likewise, Optometrists have the ability to “give back” to the community through our charity program OneSight. You can volunteer to be involved in clinics across Australia and internationally, providing eyecare to underprivileged people throughout the world.
Institute of Learning (IOL)
This is our very own internal Optometry learning resource led by Academic Director Dr Peter Herse. The IOL provides continuing professional development to all Optometrists through seminars, distance-learning opportunities and the new e-learning facility.
In 2008 IOL gave over 70 seminars in Australia and New Zealand and supplied over 18,000 OAA approved CPD points. Access to IOL materials is free to all Luxottica employees. Optometrists can also be part of our optometry community by reading and contributing individual case studies to our OAA accredited Optometry Magazine, Illuminate.
Professional Development Programs
We’re all about helping our people be the best they can be…that’s why we empower Optometrists to plan for their professional development with self-evaluation surveys. These surveys allow Optometrists to construct individualised development plans and career paths. We also support clinical excellence by providing outstanding practise tools such as a copy of Kanski’s Clinical Ophthalmology and MIMs manuals in each store.
Scholarships
Luxottica provides Postgraduate Scholarships to allow our Optometrists the opportunity to return to University and continue advanced study in clinical optometry. Areas of supported study include ocular therapeutics, contact lenses and binocular vision.
We’re proud to be able to help grow Eyecare services in the indigenous communities through our Optometry Scholarships for indigenous students. Luxottica is also an ongoing supporter of the Optometry Schools in Australia and New Zealand. We assist in the supply of equipment and resources to all university Optometry programs and value the opportunity to provide clinical placements for students across our stores.
